Do You Still Need to Go to the Dentist with Veneers?

Closeup of veneers bonded to the front of teeth

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or other dental material that bond to the front surfaces of your natural teeth. Porcelain is the most durable and natural-looking material; composite veneers are more budget-friendly but not as durable or lustrous. Lumineers are thinner veneers that require less prep. But no matter which material you choose, veneers can transform a smile with severe tooth stains, chips, small gaps, irregularly-shaped teeth, and other imperfections into one you’re proud to show off!

At Pleasant Plains Dental, we can apply custom veneers to cover a variety of cosmetic flaws. However, getting veneers doesn’t give you a reason to skip out on future visits to the dentist. You will still need routine cleanings and checkups to keep your gums and underlying teeth healthy and strong and to get checked out for oral cancer.

Caring for Veneers

With the proper care, your new smile with veneers can last ten years or more. Caring for veneers and promoting their longevity is similar to how you care for natural teeth. To care for your veneers, you should:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush for two minutes each time
  • Floss at least once a day
  • Maintain routine dental visits at Pleasant Plains Dental
  • Avoid biting on hard candy, ice, popcorn kernels, pens, pencils, packaging, and bottles
  • Avoid tobacco products
